08 Jun Prem Masters Match
In a clash against the top-of-the-table Barbarians, our club-spirit Prem Masters team took on a group of guys who happened to be in the same uniform.
The match kicked off with a series of clever plays down the left-hand side. Our winger, seemingly in a trance, executed a no-look square pass straight to an open Barbarian player. This unexpected gift was met with confusion, and in an effort to clear the ball, the Barbarian player, mesmerized by the deliberate high-spin cross, pushed it across his own goal line. The crowd went wild as we took an early lead. 1-0 to SU.
Next up was Dave ‘Multi-Touch’ Corbin, who lived up to his nickname. Displaying his superior ball-handling skills, Dave danced down the right-hand side, leaving Barbarian defenders and the umpire equally dazzled. Another SU player ran into the circle with the ball, kept going, kept going, kept going (why didn’t they tackle him?!) With the defenders in disarray and the keeper seemingly frozen in time, the ball was pushed towards the keeper. It defied logic, squeezing between the atoms of the keeper’s pads and into the goal.
The midfield saw action again with a spectacular turnover. Our latest Euro import, Mike (just back from his holiday), took command of the ball. He weaved through the Barbarian ranks with ease, delivering a masterful pass into the circle. Awaiting the ball was our new-kid-on-the-block, Trent. With poise and precision, Trent received the square ball and slotted it into the corner of the net. The opposition could only watch in disbelief as we extended our lead to 3-0.
The Barbarians managed to rally momentarily, scoring from a corner. Paynts was dirty about this.
Not to be outdone, our offense surged once more. Trent, hungry for another, found himself perfectly positioned yet again. With a deft touch, he sent the ball soaring past the keeper, sealing our triumph.
