At this stage all matches in 2023 will again be at Sydney Hockey Centre (Olympic field and Pitch 2)
Some of the important preliminary details for the commencement 2023 season to enable you to get your Clubs / teams organised ASAP are –
- Preseason Competition (which is a formal competition under 2023 Competition Rules (currently being updated / finalised from 2022) with trophies for the winners of each Division)
Commencement Date – January (Monday 30th, Tuesday 31st and Wednesday 1st February)
Completion time – 3 weeks with last Rounds on 13-19 February (some matches are likely to be on Friday night and Sunday)
Number of Teams (subject to final confirmations) – 21 in 5 Divisions (2 in Premier League – 2 games against the other team), (4 in Sydney Cup – 3 games against all other teams), (6 in Masters League – 3 games against other teams), (5 in Legends – 3 games against other teams and (4 in Grand Legends – 3 games against all other teams)
Premier League (2) – Briars 1 and UTS 1
Sydney Cup (4) – Briars 2, Mac Uni / N Districts, Manly GNS 1/2 and Ryde 1/ 2
Masters (6) – Macarthur 1/2, Ryde 2/3, St George 1 (Randwick), Sutherland 1, Sydney Uni 2-3, UTS 2
Legends (5) – N Districts, Penrith, St George 2 (Easts), Sutherland 2, Sydney Uni 3/ 4
Grand Legends (4) – Briars 3, Macarthur 3/ 4, Northside, Ryde 3/ 4
Team uniforms – all players must be dressed in their SMHA approved team playing uniform (these are formal matches – not trial games)
Winners of the Division – will be the team with the highest points at the end of the rounds (2023 Competition Rules will outline criteria should there be a tie on points – same as 2022 Competition Rules)
- Main Season Competition will comprise 30 teams in 5 Divisions – 6 teams in all Divisions – ie Premier League, Sydney Cup, Masters League, Legends and Grand Legends
Round 1 of the main season will likely commence from the week of Monday 20 February for all Divisions
