Many thanks to 2011 Committee who have all worked tirelessly and often beyond the call of duty to ensure the club progresses.  Andy thanked in particular those stepping down, including  Sam Lobsey, Camel Newman, Sandy Hall, Harriet Caterson, Rob Verdon and Chloe Hardwick-Jones.

Sam moves back to Tamworth next year but has made a significant contribution to the club and has filled various positions during his time at SUHC. Harriet and Rob both have contributed significantly to the club during their two-year stints. Rob sat on the SHA board in 2011 which was no mean feat and Harriet has represented the club as a student representative of SUSF Executive Committee. Sandy Hall stepped up to the enormous and very tough gig as VP Juniors, and she's done remarkably well . Chloe has headed overseas but should be commended on her contribution to the club for the past few years.

The new Committee will have a lot of new ideas and new energy. It's being led by Andy who has now been involved in various capacities for the last few years and supported by considerable experience in stalwart, mentor-to-all and Treasurer, Anne Simmons, and continuing Secretary, Lou.  Mark, Lloyd, Crichton and Elle are warmly welcomed along with many new faces on the General committee which is pleasing to see.

Andy wants to continue the great work of the previous few years and focus on five key areas to develop our club further:

  • Professionalism - ensure our club is run at the best of its ability and is a well-respected Hockey and University club.
  • Performance - continues to build on the increasing success it is experiencing across the entire club and to effectively recruit and retain players.
  • Junior development - work upon the goals of the junior planning day that develops a junior club that grows and caters to all players - social and emerging future Olympians.
  • Enjoyment  - maintain our rich and social culture.
  • A quest for a turf - we are happy to work with other sports and look at all options - as long as we have a home ground for hockey.

2012 marks Sydney Uni Hockey Club's 105th year and it should be a great one.  See you all in the new year. Enjoy the Summer break!

The Club Song

For over 100 years the members of SUHC have celebrated their wins, their losses and their friendships by singing (chanting?) the Club song. Join the tradition! Learn it for 2010

"Our Varsity"

Grads and undergrads and fellows,
Gaudy profs in reds and yellows,
Sing with lungs as tough as bellows
To our 'Varsity.

Some of us are mining, (insert 2 fast claps here)
Some in arts reclining, (insert 2 fast claps here)
More and more
Attack the law
And revel in its methods of refining; (insert 2 fast claps here)
Some are fools and some are clever
Faculties divide and sever,
Still we all belong forever
To our 'Varsity.

Up the Students!

SU Blue and Gold Awards

Congratulations to the following SUHC members who have been granted SUSF awards:

Blues -  Nina Khoury and Jamaya Ferguson

Golds - Cam Whittaker, Malcolm Newman and Ben Chiarella

A University Blue is for our most outstanding athletes, and a Gold is for dedicated service by members to the Club over many years.

Congatulations to all.
