On the last weekend of February SUHC travelled down to Canberra for trial games against ANU and St Pats.
After an intense pre-game warm up at McDonalds, the team arrived down in a sunny, and very hot Canberra.
In the first game against ANU SUHC showed moments of brilliance, but then unfortunately the game started. It was the first game of the season, and the team was decidedly rusty, and went down 2-1. Casey Alexander earned the admiration of the team for his brilliant off-speed, dribbler of a goal, but lost it later that evening, when he failed to get a quarter into the world's largest chicken parma. The other highlight was male model Dan Paech's injury, as it exposed his cunning cover-up of his alignment/back problems and put his modelling career in serious jeopardy.
After a short hour and a half break, the team was back on the field against St Pats. This was a much better game for Sydney Uni, with the good play not restricted to the warm up. The game was close for the first three quarters before the team finally succumbed to fatigue and the game got a bit out of hand. The highlight of the match was Tom Lobsey surpassing Taekema as the world's best flicker and bettering his lifetime corner percentage to 100%. Special mention goes to coach Moylo who was forced to play in the back with one shoulder.
After the game we discovered the cast of Aladdin 4 had mysteriously taken our hostel reservation, but thankfully we were able to crash at Moylo's house. Despite an average performance on the field, the team really rounded into form that evening. In an action packed evening Tom Lobsey lost his soul and was denied entry into one of the bars. He then had to deal with his soulless foot trying to corrupt his more conservative foot all night. New goalie Bettsie was found out, as it turns out he is actually a robot in disguise. The team did a masterful job of scaring away any girl in a ten mile radius, and to sum it all up there was just "too many d*cks on the dancefloor". Player of the Trip Award goes to Moylo's mum for providing us with ham and cheese toasties when we got back from the bar, and for picking some of us up in the Civic at 3:30am.
Luckily for Bettsie we did not have a game at 6:30 the next morning, but the Lobseys did manage to destroy Moylo's mum's front room.
Although not as successful on the field as we would have liked, the trip to Canberra was extremely useful for getting our touch back, building some on-field chemistry, and meshing as a group off the field.
